DOG
FLU SHOTS
After
seeing this on CBS news we confirmed it with
our vet. Our vet does recommend any dog that
comes into contact with other dogs such as
in a dog park or boarding etc. get the flu
shots.
(2 are required) and we are told they are
not expensive? This form of flu has mutated
from horses to dogs but not to people.
"Many families are getting their flu
vaccines, but perhaps your next trip to deal
with the virus should be to the vet. People
aren't the only ones at risk for the flu
this season, dogs are too. Not only from
H1N1, but H3N8 or canine flu. Luckily, there
is a cheap, new vaccine.
Humans can not catch canine influenza, but
it is extremely contagious for dogs.
Most will only have mild symptoms, a
cough, sneezing, a runny nose, but some will
get pneumonia and could die.
Originally a horse flu that mutated and
jumped to dogs, it was first spotted five
years ago in Florida greyhounds and has
since broken out nationwide.
Just A Dog From time to time people tell me, “Lighten up, it’s just a
dog” or, "That's a lot of money for Just a dog”. They don't
understand the distance traveled, or the time spent, or
costs involved for “Just a Dog”. Some of my proudest moments
have come about with "Just a dog." Many hours have
passed with my only company being “Just a dog," and not once
have I felt slighted. Some of my saddest moments were
brought about. by “Just a dog,". In those days of darkness,
the gentle touch of “Just a dog" provided comfort and
purpose to overcome the day.
If you, too, think its "Just a dog,” you probably understand
phrases like “just a friend,” “Just a sunrise," or "just a
promise. "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of
friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog"
brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a
better person. Because of "Just a dog" I will rise early,
take long walks and look longingly to the future.
For me and folks like me, it's not, “Just a dog". It's an
embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the
fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. “Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my
thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday people can understand it’s not “Just a
dog" It's the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from
“Just a ma or woman."
So the next time you hear the phrase “Just a dog," smile,
because they "Just Don’t Understand.”

The Old Man and the Dog (What a story)
Remember
~~ there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Amazing what people do to their dogs
Lucky Dog....
Anyone who has pets will really like this... You'll like it even if you
don't and you may even decide you need one!
Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.'
Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a
weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage
open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy.
Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.
Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the
treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys Lucky always
stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his
toys stay in the box.
It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told
her she was going to die of this disease....in fact; she was just sure
it was fatal.
She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The
night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A
thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the
three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If
I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I
didn't want to leave him! The thought made her sadder than thinking of
her own death.
The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had
anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky
for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped,
whining and miserable.
Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived
home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to
her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to
nap.
Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It
made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.
When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She
couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon
gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered,
literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had
slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement
bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had
covered her with his love.
Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again,
walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now
and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky still steals treasures and stashes
them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.
Remember....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing
from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our
lives are not the ones with the most Credentials, the most money, or the
most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

A sign for a dog owner's front door
"The dogs live here...you don't."
"If you don't want dog hair on your clothes, stay off the
furniture."
"Yes, they have some disgusting habits. So do I and so do you.
What's your point?"
"OF COURSE they smell like dogs."
"It's their nature to try to sniff your crotch. Please feel free
to sniff theirs."
"I like them a lot better than I like most people.
"To you they're dogs. To me they're adopted children who are
hairy, walks on all fours, don't speak clearly and don't like
cats. I have no problem with any of these things."
"Dogs are better than kids: they eat less, don't ask for money
all the time, are easier to train, usually come when called,
never drive your car, don't hang out with drug using friends,
don't smoke or drink, don't worry about whether they have the
latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, don't need a gazillion
dollars for college, and if they get pregnant you can sell the
pups!

VACCINATION PROTOCOL
by Dr. Jean Dodd
This is good news! Please read and avoid
unnecessary vaccinations. It makes our dogs get sick and old too
fast!!! They are only around for what seems like a blink, anyway. Please
read. (Local Dog owner)
Owners are diligent in cleaning up after their
pets, but sometimes our canine friends relieve themselves out of view of
their "parents." If you see this happen, please let the dog's owner
know or if you see any dog waste when walking with your pet, please take a moment to pick it up.
If we all do this, we will be helping each other as well as our pets.
We want to make this a safe, clean area for our animals. Cooperation
by all that use the area will make this possible.

Notes:
At times there are
20-60+ dogs playing together in the run. When you add the owners, it certainly is a
bustling area, and getting more popular everyday. The dogs bring enjoyment not
just to their owners but to men, women, children, complete families who stop
by and stand outside the fence watching all these dogs run and play. It really is something
to see 5 or
6 dogs running and jumping and then seeing more join in the fun.
Often dogs
pair off to play or wrestle. We hope the
town and county employees, supervisors, etc., notice the large number
of visitors each night. The facility is used during the day too...early
morning runs when it is cool, afternoon frisbee throws, even
individual training sessions with owner and pet. While the park is
utilized during the day, you will find more activity evenings and weekends
when owners are not working.
We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare.
And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.
