Report Animal Cruelty

We have been advised of the following information and believe it to be correct.
The NJ SPCA and Bergen County SPCA are profoundly separate organizations. The Bergen County SPCA is authorized to investigate and prosecute alleged violations of Title 4 (animal cruelty) statutes in Bergen County. The State SPCA is not, per the Bergen County Prosecutor. (NOTE that the number to call to report animal cruelty in Bergen County is either 911 or the BC SPCA's dispatch line, 201-573-8900.)

Agents and officers of the BC SPCA are presently undergoing training to supplement the training they've already received to become certified Animal Cruelty Investigator, in cooperation with the Bergen County Prosecutor's new Animal Welfare Task Force. This is a new program which is authorized pursuant to an amendment to Title 4 which the State SPCA lobbied hard and fought against.
